Mistystar is ancient, why is she still here? She’s not interesting. We don’t need characters from the original series to somehow still be keeping their probably decrepit bodies alive. I wish they would kill off more of the older characters, we really should have the story focused more of the new, fresh cats. They did, however, finally kill off one of the older Medicine Cats, which was nice. The cast is so big now that it’s impossible for most cats to get more than a line. I could barely give you the names of any ShadowClan or Sk圜lan cats who Shadowpaw and Rootpaw should have connections with that aren’t related to them. Few of them have a personality that expands beyond one word, and some of them not even that. That said the secondary characters have gotten EXTREMELY backgrounded. They’re all related to important older characters, which I simultaneously enjoy and don’t.
Bristlepaw, Rootpaw and Shadowpaw are all…actually compelling cats. It was brilliant when they did that in this fifth arc, but this book executes it even better. I loved that we have a protagonist in Sk圜lan and ShadowClan. It’s clear the series continues for profit and not out of genuine love…but the book did have its moments. Was the first arc really better or am I just too old now to properly appreciate the series? I think it has definitely suffered since the original writers took more of a step back. I’m beginning to feel like I expect too much of these books. And dedicated fans will be thrilled to discover the new adventures that unfold after the events of A Vision of Shadows. Packed with action and intrigue, the beginning of this sixth Warriors series is the perfect introduction for readers new to the Warriors world. But when a shockingly harsh leaf-bare season descends on the forest, a new darkness begins to spread-a shadow that threatens a beloved Clan leader, the cats’ connection with their ancestors in StarClan, and the very warrior code they live by.
